A bit about me, my Philosophy and what I'm passionate about
I'm Lydia, originally from Germany, Potsdam and moved to England in 2004. I live with my husband and my two boys in West Sussex. My journey as a doula started after my first son's birth.
For my second son Jake, I planned to give birth in a birth centre. Unfortunately I had to be transferred to hospital but with the great support of my doula Sara, my husband and midwives, I had the positive and natural birth experience I was longing for. Giving birth to my son's made me extremely proud of myself and was a life changing experience. I never felt such strength, pain, happiness, doubts, joy and relief before. It was my own experience of giving birth and motherhood which inspired me to become a doula and to support mothers and parents during their births and with mother/parenthood.
I have since been trained with Nurturing Birth and Doula UK with support of a great mentor. I'm a fully recognised Birth Doula and in the last years I have supported all choices of birth, either at home, Midwife Led Unit, Birth Centre and in hospital. Also I have supported mothers during Induction, Caesarean section, epidurals and assisted delivery (forseps).
I believe in the fundamental human rights of the birthing woman. A woman has the right to decide everything that happens to her body and her baby around childbirth. She has the right to be respected as the person most invested in the well-being of her unborn child, and the person with the authority to make decisions on its behalf. I truly believe when woman give unconditional, continuous care to mothers and partners during pregnancy, labour and in the period after birth it can make all the difference towards a positive and fulfilling birth experience. Women need women during child birth and beyond. I believe in natural birth to be the safest form of birth, but I understand it isn’t an option or choice for every woman. As a doula I support all women regardless of their choices of how they birth their babies.
In my care as a doula I have met wonderful people whom I have had the blessing to share and support in their birth experience. I'm grateful to all of them letting me being part of their journey into motherhood.
You will also find me at the local monthly Home Birth Meeting and events surrounded with birth and motherhood in Sussex and Surrey.
Other than birth, my great loves are watching my children growing up peacefully, seeing my husband creating interesting things, music (apart from being a doula I also have been working in music for many years), cooking and eating good food, being outside, swimming, traveling, hearing what people have to say, dancing, and thinking.
